Plasma Hdtv - What About Burn-In?

Plasma Hdtv - What About Burn-In?

If you've been researching Hdtvs, you've heard about a nasty limited problem, unique to plasma and Crt sets, called burn-in. That's when your 00 plasma screen gets imprinted with the ghostly image of a Tv channel's logo or the shape of a letterbox because inevitable parts of the screen have aged faster than the rest. But if it's such a big deal, why do people keep buying expensive plasma Hdtvs? Is burn-in precisely worth worrying about?

Burn-In Susceptibility in modern Plasma Hdtvs

The Hdtv commerce is very contentious these days, and plasma manufacturers are precisely starting to feel competition from the Lcd industry. So, you can bet they're doing all they can to eliminate burn-in. Screen technology has improved to the point where allowable use of the Tv (starting with a detailed break-in process) will not cause a problem, but careless use just might. And many of the new plasma Hdtvs, like the Samsung Hpt5064, have a "screen burn protection mode" built into the Tv to repair mild damage.

Image holding vs. Burn-In

Image holding is a coarse follow that you might have seen after turning off a Crt television at night: the last image to appear on the screen stays there for a while after the Tv is off, then fades away slowly. This is caused by a Charge build-up in the phosphors (the glowing picture elements in the screen), and will go away after the display has been Powered off for a limited while.

Burn-in, on the other hand, is permanent. Since it is caused by uneven aging of the screen phosphors, the "burned" image will persist forever, like a tattoo. It can be caused by spending a lot of time Watching stuff in a 4:3 (non-widescreen) aspect ratio, Watching a news channel with a stationary "news ticker", or playing a game with stationary screen elements. Just as a tattoo can be reMoved with a great deal of effort, there are ways to fix a burned-in screen. But an ounce of stoppage is worth a pound of cure: follow a break-in policy when the set is new.

The Break-In Procedure

If you would rather be safe than sorry, you'll need to go through a break-in process when the Tv is new. In 2004, Panasonic commissioned a detailed look into the qoute and came up with some guidelines for new plasma owners:

In the first hundred hours:

Make sure the display is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely fills the screen (there are often three or more settings from which to choose). The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the "Just" mode. Turn down the dissimilarity to 50% or less. Briefly engage the 4:3 mode to confirm that the side bars are set to mid-gray to minimize the opening of burn-in. Return the set to a "full screen" (Just, Zoom, Full) position during the first hundred hours of use. during the first hundred hours of use, don't view the same channel for extended periods. This should preclude channel logos and other fixed images from being retained. Avoid any static images (video games, computer images, Dvd title screens, etc.) during the hundred-hour break-in.

After the hundred hour break-in period, during the next nine hundred hours:

Continue to sustain the dissimilarity setting at 50% or less. Limit the use of 4:3 aspect ratio mode to 15% of viewing time. Limit the use of static images (computer, video games, etc.) to less than 10% of viewing time. After one thousand viewing hours, panels are much less likely to taste image burn-in.
The bottom Line

Hdtv experts agree now that burn-in is an overstated problem. Complaints now come from a much smaller ration of owners than they used to. Buying a late model plasma Hdtv, using a break-in procedure, and avoiding inevitable viewing habits should sacrifice the opening of damage to just about zero.

Hdtv 3 Ways - turn Lcd Or Plasma to Hdtv

Hdtv 3 Ways - turn Lcd Or Plasma to Hdtv

Actually, You Can get a Converter box and just change Your Old Crt Tv... And Get Hi Definition pictures on it!

But there are only acceptable Definition Digital Converter Box coupons available.

This Is Because The Government Is contribution 2 Coupons Per Household, worth Each.
This is adequate at this time to buy a potential acceptable Definition box...

But A High Definition Box Requires A Bit More Cash...

And a tasteless Response Is..

Aren't digital converters the same as Hdtv converters? No. Remember, there is a distinction in price between Sdtv and Hdtv Digital Converters.

Standard Definition Digital Converter Boxes: Display acceptable Definition Programs Only... High Definition (Hdtv) Digital Converter Boxes: Display Both acceptable Definition, and High Definition.

If you get your hdtv converter rebate, You can buy a acceptable Digital Converter Box, because they are cheap at this time.

Many acceptable Digital Converter boxes are the same price as two coupons, which you will be eligible for.

...Therefore:

You will need to weigh up the distinction in price and functions, if you want to view High Definition.

It's definitely worth the extra cost because many Free To Air Networks and or Stations are Transmitting separate Programs on these Hd channels!

Also you will not see High Definition Channels on a acceptable box.

The Ntia has issued about 20 million coupons so far.

However, the coupons have a 90-day expiration, and of those that have passed that date, less than half have been redeemed.

So, you need to be quick... agreeing to a press issue from Zenith, the business has shipped more than a million converters, and about 6 million units of all brands have been bought using the rebate coupons.

Estimates for the whole of Us households with Tvs and no cable or satellite subscriptions are as high as 20 million.

And if you think the fact that many homes with cable or satellite also have an "extra" Tv somewhere that is not connected, and so depends on a broadcast signal, the total whole of households could be even higher.

So with less than 200 days to go until the digital Tv transition on Feb 17, 2009!!

It appears that fewer than a third of those who will need a converter box have used a coupon to buy one.

If you get a Hdtv converter box, you Will get Hdtv.

Only If you also have a High Definition Tv set.

Lcd Tv Features

Lcd Tv Features

Modern Lcd Tv sets have a foreseen, array of features despite the recent emergence of Hdtv associated features taking town stage. While Hdtv associated features can make or break an Lcd Tv, they do not stand alone: the venerable Pip, reverse 3:2 pulldown, and even extremely technical aspects of the basal technology such as 3D Y/C digital comb filters all work together to present the best potential viewing experience.

Pip, or photograph In Picture, technology has been colse to since the dawn of big screen Tvs. Pips are areas of the screen designated to display someone else video feed such as a Ps3, home protection system, or even just someone else channel than that which is being Watched on the rest of the Lcd Tv screen at the moment. In short, the more Pip boxes an Lcd Tc generate, the easier life can be for families/offices with conflicting interests: Watching one channel, while surfing other channels, while the children play the newest video games, while the front door protection camera lets one watch for visitors can all be potential simultaneously.

A reverse 3:2 pulldown is considerable for whatever planning on using older 24 frame per second technology with 30 frame per second Lcd Tvs. Without modern reverse 3:2 pulldown technology, whatever that was not designed to present at 30 frames per second would swiftly become distorted or appear to jump colse to the screen of an Lcd Tv. If one has ever watched a new broadcast where older Crt monitors or televisions are descriptive in the background with the have witnessed that strange distortion of what should be a very clear picture. This is caused by a disparity in the middle of the video capture speed of the camera and that of the display. While it is not potential to definite problems like this that are honestly part of the video, it is potential for this corollary to be reMoved or at least severely mitigated on Lcd Tvs by ensuring that all runs at a plane and even 30 frames per second.

Advanced visual presentation features such as 3D Y/C digital comb filters separate distinct colors into distinct data streams. The disjunction results in easier and quicker determination of each of the scan lines prior to being displayed, which effectively translates to amazing photograph output. An advanced color disjunction technology such as 3D Y/C digital comb filters also allows for private colors to be corrected much easier. Not all display technologies are equal, and manufacturers sometimes need to tweak data bound for the Lcd Tv display in order to ensure allowable presentation.

Of course, Hdtv is the big buzz word in modern Lcd Tv lingo. distinct resolutions such as 1080i, or 720p indicate not only the estimate of pixels (colored dots) an Lcd Tv has, but also either or not those pixels are updated one half at a time as is the case with interlaced (i) systems or all at once as in the case with progressive scan (p) models.

Last but not least, do not forget the connectors. The best Lcd Tv technology is nothing without high ability digital input to display.

Samsung Ln40C630 Lcd Hd Tv retell

Samsung Ln40C630 Lcd Hd Tv retell

I was recently looking for the best selling Hd Tv sets and was literally surprised when my research led me to the Samsung Ln40C630 Lcd Hd Tv. Firstly I was surprised it was Samsung (big fan as I am) and secondly that it was a 40 Inch set and not something bigger. So, here am I, Hd Tv expert, and I am surprised at something like that!

I also plan it would be a Led or Plasma, but it was a mid-range Lcd that came out on top. So, I had to find out more about this Hd Tv that everyone over America is buying!

As I was in Vancouver at the time, I went down to the local future Shop to see what I could find out. Arriving early on a Monday morning hoping the sales staff would have nothing best to do and than give me a demo, the strategy proved good as I fast found my new best friend Graham the Tv salesman. To be fair, I did clarify to him I had no intention of buying and would he mind, so a Starbucks Vanilla Latte later Graham was in full flow!

The first thing Graham told me is that Samsung have only just gone to store with the C Series Lcd's. And, he was very quick to point out how much the price has fallen over former models. Release. My guess is that economies of scale have kicked in as far as Lcd Tv develop is concerned...that coupled with the obvious growth in ask and therefore numbers shipping and it's a superior price discount situation. So, I guess we have just reached the point where population begin to feel it is a literally good buy to invest in Hd Tv.

That's fair enough, but I still think any Hd Tv needs to "wow" the possible buyer to make them part with their hard earner money, even more so in the current economic conditions.

The most important thing I wanted to know about was request for retrial screen blur, a well known flaw in ealy Lcd sets. literally it was why my first Hd set was a Plasma (being a sport fanatic and all). Of course, the old Plasma (now my second set) is suffering the curse of the Plasma - screenburn. Tough choice in the "olden" days!

Anyway, back to the story, Graham explained that because Samsung have made the 630 series with 120 Hz screen refresh and given it full 1080p Hd potential that issue has been solved. The 80,000:1 screen variation also helps keep the photograph clean and crisp, even when the performance reaches breakneck speed.

I guess with Watching sport being a high priority Tv pastime for many millions of Americans overcoming this problem at the now lower price means the price objection fence has been smashed which is why the Samsung Ln40C630 is now proving so hugely beloved and we are looking huge sales numbers.

Certainly I love all sports and this was a major issue for me. But what I saw from the Ln40C630 Lcd Tv literally changed my view on Lcds.

So, we rigged up a true 1080p source and the photograph is crystal clear. And, I am deLighted to description completely free of request for retrial blur. We Watched a "morning after" replay of a Canucks game in full 1080 Hd. Ice Hockey is probably the fastest sport ready and the photograph was stunning. The performance was crisp and clear with the colors appealing and vibrant and the blacks deep and dark.

Then we attached it to Blu Ray Dvd player to see how the Tv performed with Hd Dvd. Again the Samsung Ln40C630 came up trumps. Brilliant, bright, solid colors with deep rich blacks showed off stunning contrasts and a photograph that seemed like it was real life in appealing sunshine.

Graham (we were now on first name terms) explained this was due to the full 1080p and that variation ratio. He also told me that early Lcds were only at 10,000:1. Most Hd Tvs are around 70,000 - 100,000 ratio apparently, and this is what gives the newest sets such extremely detailed and crystal clear pictures, no matter how fast and frenetic the performance might get.

It's true best "definition" is ready with a Led, but I am convinced (after watching) that this set is now so beloved because it gives a truly stunning viewing feel at a Very inexpensive price. It's also pretty much "immediate" future proof with Graham reckoning it would be "good for at last 5-7 years". I think that's reasonable.

The Samsung Un40C630 also comes with inexpensive jack pack (4 Hdmi, 2 Usb, Pc Input), best is available, sure, but this is more than enough for most other than the real geeks needs. Low Power consumption is another side benefit. It also uses Samsungs newest photograph technology (wide color enhancer pro). This is designed to give best color luminance over the spectrum resulting in more great colors. I can vouch for this! (Can you tell I borrowed some of the sales puff there!)

The one itsybitsy downside on the Samsung Ln40C630 40 Inch Led Tv is that the sound is not very good in all honesty. With just 2 x 10 watt speakers I guess it's not surprising. And whilst the brochure says "offers multi channel sound", well not really. But I think most population buying an Hd Tv will probably buy at least a basic cinema surround law so it's not literally an issue in my opinion.

The bottom line? This is an excellent Hd Tv set in terms of performance, functionality and more importantly price! If you haven't yet upgraded, this is the middle ground, safe choice for your first foray into Hd Tv. Solid technology contribution excellent photograph potential for any sort of viewing. Having seen a demo courtesy of Graham I can now clearly see why the Samsung Ln40C630 Lcd Tv has come to be Americas most beloved Hd Tv!
