Lcd Vs Plasma Vs Dlp - Which Hdtv is Best For You?

With so many new innovations in televisions today, it's hard to keep up with all of the beloved technologies. Each of these technologies have advantages and disadvantages. It can be confusing as to what these technologies mean and if you as a matter of fact want or need what they have to offer. There are many habitancy who have a overwhelming insight of all of this, but to the vast majority of us this is practically like mastering a new language. Many of us remember how easy it once was to buy a television. In the past, all you needed to think was the size of the screen and if you could afford it. Technology has its advantages because the picture and sound quality have advanced dramatically in new years and continues to advance, along with the increasing of numerous new features. This description is the result of quite a bit of research. In this article, I have attempted to put in the most basic terms what these technologies are and how they differ from each other. It is my hope that with this facts you will be able to make a great decision about which Tv is best for you.

Lcd, Plasma and Dlp are the most beloved technologies behind displaying pictures on Hdtv today. Every shopper buying a Tv today needs to know what these terms mean in order to make an intelligent decision about the best Tv to buy.

LCD HDTV

What is Lcd? Lcd stands for Liquid Crystal Display. There is alot of technical jargon out there that explains the science behind this in very exacting and involved terms. For the purposes of buying a Tv, all you need to know is that Lcd is a television display type that uses a viscous liquid and a mesh of transistors to turn pixels on and off. Direct-view and corner television both use this technology and in both, the Lcds wish a Light to originate brightness.

Lcd Vs Plasma Vs Dlp - Which Hdtv is Best For You?

What are the advantages of Lcd Tvs?

(1) Low energy consumption. Lcd Tvs use very low amounts of Power.
(2) Cooler running temperature. The Light source (florescent bulb) in an Lcd television generates less heat than a Plasma or customary television.
(3) Low amounts of glare.
(4) quality Lcds have perfect brightness level pictures and offer more contrast. Compared to Plasma Tvs, Lcd Tvs have an increased image brightness.
(5) Lcd flat panels can be mounted on walls and don't take up much room. They are typically slightly lighter than Plasma Tvs.
(6) Fairly long display life. The display life of quality Lcds is practically 60,000 hours, after which you may only have to replace the light source.

What are the disadvantages of Lcd Tvs?

(1) Lcds are not good for fast intelligent images because when objects Move speedily across the screen, the image "delays" and has a tail following it on the screen when it shouldn't. There are two ways to avoid this issue. By purchasing Lcds that are 37" or smaller you will have a great image quality since the delay is less noticeable than on the larger Lcd Tvs. Another way is to buy a 120hz Lcd, but those models are higher in price than the 60hz models.
(2) Lcd reviews indicate that brightness levels aren't as good as Plasma. Although black levels have improved, they also are still not quite up to the level of Plasma.
(3) The viewing angle of an Lcd is not as good as a Plasma. If you are Watching an Lcd from a slanted view, the quality of the image can diminish. However, this distinction in the middle of Lcd and Plasma is not that significant.
(4) Lcd Tvs over 35" are very expensive.

What is Plasma? Sometimes all flat-panel Hdtvs are referred to as Plasma screens. This is a misnomer. Plasma screens have more in tasteless with Cathode Ray Tube (Crt) Tvs than with Lcds. The plasma gas strikes specific pixels at the front of the Tv and the pixel then turns to a specific color. BackLights are not needed with Plasma screens because the plasma varies the intensity of light which then produces a full range of colors which typically have an benefit over Lcds because they have deeper blacks.

What are the advantages of Plasma Tvs?

(1) Great life span. Typically, at an mean use of six hours per day, they will last about 20 years.
(2) great viewing angles. Unlike Lcds, a Plasma screen has about 180 degrees field of vision without loss of picture quality, so you can Watch from any angle.
(3) perfect distinction ratios which enable the Plasma Tvs to show great shadow detail.
(4) Faster picture response. Plasma Tvs have an perfect picture response. There is virtually no delay like Lcds.
(5) Like Lcds, Plasma Tvs don't take up too much space and can be mounted on a wall.

What are the disadvantages of Plasma Tvs?

(1) Image burn-in. Plasma Tvs are more susceptible to image burn-in of static images. If you were to leave the Plasma Tv on for many hours, the network logo on the lowest right-hand corner of the screen would be burnt-in.
(2) Plasma Tvs are not ready under 37".
(3) Shorter display lifespan than other types of Tvs like Lcds. Naturally by turning the brightness down, you can expand the display lifespan of the Plasma Tv.
(4) Plasma Tvs originate more heat than Lcds.

What is Dlp? Dlp stands for Digital Light Processing. Dlp is a formula using rear corner light which has taken the place of the old Cathode Ray Tube (Crt) technology. Unlike Crt, Dlps are relatively thin. Like Lcd, a chip is used for the actual image to be displayed on, however, the chip used in a Dlp Tv is different. The chip is referred to as a Dmd (Digital Micromirror Device). If you're not confused already, to simplify this, every pixel on a Dmd chip is a reflective mirror.

What are the advantages of Dlp Tvs?

(1) Dlp Tvs are economy than Lcds or Plasma Tvs.
(2) Dlp Tvs have a good collection of sets in very large sizes.
(3) perfect brightness and color.

What are the disadvantages of Dlp Tvs?

(1) High maintenance cost. With Dlp Tvs you have to replace the corner bulb which has a minute durability. Not only can these be expensive, but they can also be hard to find.
(2) Not wall mountable. Dlp Tvs take up more space than Lcd Tvs and Plasma Tvs.
(3) Poor field of vision. As with Lcds, when viewed on an angle the picture quality suffers.
(4) Poor picture quality. The picture quality does not assess to Lcd Tvs and Plasma Tvs.
(5) Image blur. With Dlp Tvs scenes of fast operation can cause a trail of colors.

Ultimately, what Tv you resolve to buy depends upon what your needs are and your personal situation. Only you can resolve what is best for you and your household, but it is always best to be informed concerning what your options are.

Sharp Aquos Lc65D64U 1080p Lcd Hdtv

Compared to the other major players in the Lcd Tv market, Sharp is a relatively new competitor. Nevertheless, with great innovation and heavy advertising, Sharp has managed to squeeze itself into the major leagues of the Lcd Tv market. What Sharp lacks in feel is compensated with great invent and remarkable innovations. Here is a quick report of one of the few 65 inch Lcd Tv models in the market.

The feature that impressed me the most was the new invent of the Sharp Aquos Lc65D64U 1080p Lcd Tv. It is much more slimmer than most other Lcd Tvs in the store and when mounted on the wall, looks more like a picture frame than a Lcd Tv. Agreeing to Sharp, the Aquos 30% thinner than its former models and many other Lcd models in the market. As this is a 65 inch Lcd Tv, a super slim invent unmistakably helps as a chunky 65 inch would be too imposing in any room.

LCD HDTV

The new Sharp Aquos Lc65D64U 1080p Lcd Tv has a dynamic distinction ratio of 10,000 to one and has an impressive 4ms response time. With 176 degrees of wide angle viewing, you can catch a good view of the screen from practically any angle.

Sharp Aquos Lc65D64U 1080p Lcd Hdtv

When the Tv is off, there seems to some reflection of the Lamps on the screen. When it is turned on, the reflections are not visible. Some other customers have complained of some bad odor arrival from the Sharp Aquos Lc65D64U 1080p Lcd Tv when it is on for a few hours at a time. At the time of writing, I have yet to observation any odors (keep my fingers crossed).

Plasma Hdtv - What About Burn-In?

If you've been researching Hdtvs, you've heard about a nasty itsybitsy problem, unique to plasma and Crt sets, called burn-in. That's when your 00 plasma screen gets imprinted with the ghostly image of a Tv channel's logo or the outline of a letterbox because definite parts of the screen have aged faster than the rest. But if it's such a big deal, why do people keep buying costly plasma Hdtvs? Is burn-in de facto worth worrying about?

Burn-In Susceptibility in modern Plasma Hdtvs

LCD HDTV

The Hdtv commerce is very competitive these days, and plasma manufacturers are de facto starting to feel competition from the Lcd industry. So, you can bet they're doing everything they can to eliminate burn-in. Screen technology has improved to the point where allowable use of the Tv (starting with a detailed break-in process) will not cause a problem, but careless use just might. And many of the new plasma Hdtvs, like the Samsung Hpt5064, have a "screen burn security mode" built into the Tv to fix mild damage.

Plasma Hdtv - What About Burn-In?

Image retention vs. Burn-In

Image retention is a common succeed that you might have seen after turning off a Crt television at night: the last image to appear on the screen stays there for a while after the Tv is off, then fades away slowly. This is caused by a fee build-up in the phosphors (the glowing photo elements in the screen), and will go away after the display has been Powered off for a itsybitsy while.

Burn-in, on the other hand, is permanent. Since it is caused by uneven aging of the screen phosphors, the "burned" image will persist forever, like a tattoo. It can be caused by spending a lot of time Watching stuff in a 4:3 (non-widescreen) aspect ratio, Watching a news channel with a stationary "news ticker", or playing a game with stationary screen elements. Just as a tattoo can be reMoved with a great deal of effort, there are ways to fix a burned-in screen. But an ounce of stoppage is worth a pound of cure: succeed a break-in policy when the set is new.

The Break-In Procedure

If you would rather be safe than sorry, you'll need to go through a break-in process when the Tv is new. In 2004, Panasonic commissioned a detailed look into the question and came up with some guidelines for new plasma owners:

In the first hundred hours:

Make sure the display is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely fills the screen (there are often three or more settings from which to choose). The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the "Just" mode. Turn down the incompatibility to 50% or less. Briefly engage the 4:3 mode to confirm that the side bars are set to mid-gray to minimize the opportunity of burn-in. Return the set to a "full screen" (Just, Zoom, Full) position during the first hundred hours of use. during the first hundred hours of use, don't view the same channel for extended periods. This should preclude channel logos and other fixed images from being retained. Avoid any static images (video games, computer images, Dvd title screens, etc.) during the hundred-hour break-in.

After the hundred hour break-in period, during the next nine hundred hours:

Continue to preserve the incompatibility setting at 50% or less. Limit the use of 4:3 aspect ratio mode to 15% of viewing time. Limit the use of static images (computer, video games, etc.) to less than 10% of viewing time. After one thousand viewing hours, panels are much less likely to taste image burn-in.
The lowest Line

Hdtv experts agree now that burn-in is an overstated problem. Complaints now come from a much smaller ration of owners than they used to. Buying a late model plasma Hdtv, using a break-in procedure, and avoiding definite viewing habits should sell out the opportunity of damage to just about zero.

recite of Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 1080p Lcd Hdtv

The Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 46" 1080p Lcd Hdtv is an elegant looking set with its piano black frame. The black quit is reflective, but not annoyingly shiny like a mirror as long as you don't put it directly in front of a Light source. It's a serious looking Lcd Hdtv with its black quit and anti-glare screen. Not only does it look nice aesthetically, but it looks awesome where it counts the most, the picture.

The picture, like the Sony Bravia V2500 models, looks amazing. No annoying glares will ruin your viewing touch and the fogging that hit some of the owners with the V2500 model is gone. If there are any, you must be unlucky. The Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 1080p Lcd Hdtv has a 60 Hz refresh rate while the higher end models have 120 Hz so the motion blurring will not be as smooth as the more costly sets. That doesn't mean it's blurry though. It's still pretty smooth during fast action sequences and you probably won't be able to tell anyway when playing Hd content.

LCD HDTV

The Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 1080p Lcd Hdtv up-scales 480i thorough definition content with its Reality Creation Multi Function v1.0 technology and you can see that it truly helps make Sd stuff less horrible than it otherwise should be. This basically means Watching thorough programming is good, but not at the level you're used to when Watching with a Crt, but also not as bad as many other Lcd Tvs.

recite of Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 1080p Lcd Hdtv

The black and the unlikeness is good unlike what has been expected of Lcds. The colors are rich and the picture comes to life more so than other Lcd Hdtvs. Side by side with the Samsung or Sharp, the Sony looked better. In fact it can even compete with some of the plasma Tvs out there. Just switch to normal mode and not use vivid mode and make some tweaks from there to your liking and the image will be near perfect. Try sharpening the image and expanding the black.

Configuring the settings in the Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 1080p Lcd Hdtv is a zephyr with the very regarded Xmb menu ideas that's also in the Ps3. Speaking of the Ps3, watching blu-ray on the Kdl-46V3000 is simply stunning. If you don't have a Ps3 or a Blu-Ray player, you need to get one if you're getting an Hdtv. Hd-Dvd is dead.

The Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 1080p Lcd Hdtv does not have Pip or picture in picture, but it does have P&P or picture & picture. You can play video from two input sources at the same time, but only from Hdmi, Tv tuner, and video on the left side of the Tv and component on the right. That means no watching Hdmi & Hdmi at the same time. It's not a deal breaker since the picture quality is way up there.

Sound quality is good should you choose not to invest in a home theater surround sound system, but it does lack some oomph in the bass department. It's much best than many Lcd panels out there considering how small the piano black frame is.

I recommend the Sony Bravia Kdl-46V3000 1080p Lcd Hdtv if you don't want to spend a few extra Ben Franklins on the Xbr4 and you don't want the older, but still excellent Kdl-46V2500. You can't go wrong with this selection and it's one of the best bangs for the buck.

Lcd Tv? 1080p? How to Pick Lcd Hdtv Set - Secrets They Don't Want You to Know

What about a good imagine to get a 1080p Lcd Tv ?

First of all, what Is a 1080p panel? The panel or screen display is what you are Watching and it is built up of pixels or photo Elements. Or, Pix. Els. That is where the name comes from.
Ok here's the thing, the pixel count determines either it can display a 1080p photo in native mode inside Lcd tvs. Why? The 1080p panel has a fixed pixel whole of 2,073,000 pixels and can only display in that format, so all things that doesn't fit the panel must be processed or wide to fit.
This is how any Lcd Tv or any digital flat panel tv, like Plasma Hdtv, with a fixed whole of pixels works.
A 1080i (With lines) photo is fed to the processor inside the Tv, and becomes 1080p (No lines), simply by adding the lines together. This is called Upconverting or upscaling, or addition the video signal. What a computer does with all types of files, it can "Zip" and "Unzip" them. Except when video files are zipped, or Downconverted, they don't appear to lose quality. But when they are unzipped, or Upconverted, they may appear to lose a Lot. This is because the imperfections of a lower resolution signal are wide along with the good stuff. On the other hand, the apparent potential of a Dvd is improved by removing the lines, a major revising for any signal. Remember here, we are talking about streaming video files, to borrow a computer term.
A Real 1080p photo or signal can only come from a Blu-Ray disc player or a Ps3, or an Upconverting Dvd player, at the moment, but more options will come to be ready as new technologies are created. And it looks great on a 1080p panel.
The signal is displayed just as it comes from the player at 1080p, via a Hdmi cable, and this is the easiest to use cable selection currently for 1080p connection. Any other signal like Free To Air Broadcasts which are either 720p (No Lines) or 1080i (Lines) will be upconverted or kind of "Unzipped" in the built in video processing hardware inside the Hdtv set, to 1080p. Naturally the potential of Lcd panel and the potential of video hardware will mean the best results. See "10 Bit" below.
This leads to a special case of cheaper sets being sold with lcd flat panel types which have an 8 bit or 6 bit panel and corresponding processing hardware. Now when these sets have a 6 or 8 bit panel, for very complicated reasons, you can almost bet that it will be a fast panel. simply because the math that the circuitry needs to accomplish on the video signal is easier, and faster, so takes less time. These are commonly smaller screen sizes commonly less than 26", and it is also potential that it is a panel originally designed for computer display.
Which explains the weird screen resolutions like 1440, 1280, etc in advertisements. Avoid these types of screens unless you are using it for a Pc. Although some look good with a Pc, and bad with Tv, some are bad with both. Meaning cheaper, no name brands. On the other hand, 10 bit panels can be made as fast using new technology, and they will have to be much higher quality, because generally they are made only by a few well known manufacturers. Only a make your mind up group of manufacturers admittedly make their own glass for lcd flat panels. How To Pick An Lcd Tv that contains a cheap panel? A sure fire recipe is: Stand close to the screen and either look down at the screen, or look up at the screen from below. If the photo changes color or becomes negative, bingo. Don't buy it.
10 bit lcd flat panels are more than fast enough to handle the display of 1080p video signals and 10 bit video processing is also much higher quality, better for movies etc.
That being said, surprisingly one of the best panels to get if you are a sports nut is 720p. It is also cheaper then 1080p. Video displayed on this type of panel is lower detail but better for high speed motion. This lower detail is not admittedly noticeable unless you get a very big screen. Especially if you go for very large screen sizes, like 50", or larger, it will be very inescapable that is 720p. Any benefit of 720p will be canceled out with a Lcd Tv 1080p display with 120hz refresh. This technology is becoming very common now. It means that any benefits of 720p, namely for sports etc, are negated. We'll leave that branch for a later discussion.
The take home message from all of this is, 1080p is the display of selection for population who want to take benefit of Hdtv to the maximum. But You must stick with known name brands when choosing the best lcd tv from the wide range of models with 1080p panels. That way, you ensure that you get at least a 10 bit panel and at minimum 10 bit video processing.
As an example, many Lcd Hdtv sets use 14 bit video processing and 10 Bit 1080p panels in their range. A high potential Lcd Tv 1080p will reproduce True Hdtv, this will ensure you get an Lcd Tv divergence ratio that is at the highest level, and glow levels and color gradations are the best potential and therefore ensuring potential photo reproduction.
